How Did Andrew Young Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement

Andrew Young Jr. was a prominent leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He was born in March 12, 1932 in the city of New Orleans. He became very versatile in many occupations but he exuded the highest level outside of the Civil Rights. Andrew Young grew up with a mindset of being successful that exceeds his living in New Orleans, La. Mr. Young was well educated as he attended and received certificates from the following schools: Howard University, Dillard University Hartford Theological Seminary. Andrew Young Jr. begin his journey as an active Pastor in Atlanta, Ga in 1955 then became a member of Civil Rights Movement as he teamed up with Martin Luther King Jr. making plans that revolved around desegregation in the South. He organized a march in 1963 that caused many people to be attacked by police animals. He was a very trustworthy person which made Martin Luther King very pleased. Andrew Young was moved up into a higher position within the SCLC organization. During the year of 1964 was the birth of the Civil Rights Acts and in 1965 was the Voting Rights Acts, these were put in place to stand up for the rights in the black community. At the time of the killing of Martin Luther King Jr. that took place in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968 Mr. Young was with Mr. King and after his death Andrew Young was elected as Vice President of the …show more content…

Young wore many hats that fitted very well in each area he served in as a Diplomat, Civil Rights Activists, Mayor, U.S. Representative and Pastor. These many things were accomplish through education, hard work and commitment. Andrew Young was a dedicated man in the offices he held throughout his years. He also was given the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Springam Medal also More house College named the center Global Leadership dedicating it to Andrew Young. He had such talents and gifts to spread around which took him to the next step of teaching a Georgia State University about School of Policy
