How Did Caesar's Military Activities Affect The Roman Republic

Caesar’s military activities in Gaul, Germany, and Britain campaigns had significantly important impacted the Roman Republic. Along with a substantial impact on the Roman Republic, the campaigns had prolonged both Caesars political and military career. The campaigns had offered the Roman Republic many advantages that includes; extending their clientele for future military campaigns, provided the Romans great recruiting grounds for their troops, and prolonged the amount of money the Roman Province had. This was all due to Caesars military activity in the Gallic Wars.

“Though they had not developed the art of writing, they had other skills, such as metal work, and weapon making” Kamm closely refers to how the Gallic people had a profession in the making of weapons and armor, and this could be given to the Romans as they were in war. This was a great skill the Gallic people had, and the romans desperately needed their help with this in case of civil war that had erupted in Rome. Caesar’s main reason of taking Gaul was as it had created a buffer zone between the powerful German tribes, Britain and the Roman Province itself. These resources were able to provide and support the Romans with food and shelter. Along with agriculture benefits for the Roman Republic, there was great wealth/booty that was acquired for Caesar. “Great excitement among Rome had come with” This was seen as another main argument in why Caesar wanted to go to Gaul so badly. “Caesar’s primary goal was wealth” As Caesar was already in debt with many people in the Roman Province, he was in need to find gold a fair amount of coins in order to pay out his debts. “Caesar had borrowed substantial amounts of money off of wealthy Romans, and had promised to pay them back. Gaul had shown great amounts of wealth and this is the biggest reason in why Caesar had wanted to begin campaigning in Gaul as general” Due to Caesar gaining large amounts of wealth, the Roman Republic had become excited and this impacted them greatly as they were able to gain portions of this wealth back in the Rome
