The Contributions of the Media. 2016 was the year the media had taken the attention of all. People who had never watched the news had begun tuning in every day and online news article were shared by thousands among social media. The reason being, was that there was so much going on in the world from elections to disasters, the people needed to be informed. As there was so much in the world taking place, there was also many different perceptions of what was happening. While it is in an individual's right to have their opinion, it is still the duty of the media to provide unbiased information. Truthful information is important because a story that is spun can have consequences. Spun news is when the press takes something out of context and curates it to a certain demographic. This can include omitting crucial facts, denying evidence, or lack of evidence. It’s an art of misleading that is dangerous to the presentation of information. It is also something President Trump has been constantly accused of. As Bill O'Reilly has stated on his show The O'Reilly Factor, “Mr.Trump often veers from hard facts and that allows the people who despise him to sometimes effectively attack him”( O’Reilly 2017). O’Reilly focuses on the main part of the relationship on the media side, concluding that President Trump’s action’s and previous engagements with the previous is the conflict. His spin on situations most often lack evidence and are based off claims that are yet to be proven. Trumps lack of validation for facts, opens the door for the harsh criticism he receives. It is his engagement, which is nothing short of slandering and finger pointing of/at media outlets, that contributes to his broken relationship with the press. He was speaking on European countries who have had more liberal laws regarding accepting refugees, and the correlation of increase in violence in said countries. He began listing off countries who had been hit by terrorist and made a remark that implied Sweden had an incident the previous night. President Trump had stated “You look what’s happening. We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what's happening in German, you look at what's happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this?” (Trump 2017). This baffled many because there had been no reported attack on the country, and it opened the door for criticism on his credibility. The media then again, took this occurrence and spun and framed their own narratives. This situation is one of many, that exemplifies the constant back and forth relationship the parties have with one
