Mysteries of the world enthrall everyone, but one puzzle that continues to perplex researchers around the world is the mystifying and peculiar events that occurred on the night in which the author of mystery, Edgar Allan Poe, was found nearly dead in the streets. Edgar Allan Poe has been an enigma to the world since his death in 1849. During his lifetime, the author brought many influential literary works and impacted the age of writing forever. His movement of the short story spread across the globe and transformed the traditional writing style forever. Poe continues to impact literature today by influencing modern authors. He was the son of young actors, but had the unfortunate circumstance of becoming an orphan as a young child. By the time of his early adolescent years, Poe was an aspiring author and poet. Unfortunately the low funding Poe was provided with, combined with his tendency to gamble, resulted in the author getting kicked out of the University of Virginia. After much heartbreak and disputes in his home town, the author dreaded returning home and instead joined the army. Although, before adhering to the duties of a soldier at United States Military Academy at West Point, Poe published his first novel Tamerlane and Other Poems in 1827. After quickly being expelled from the school, Poe was given the opportunity to focus solely on his writing. In an attempt to overcome poverty, Poe traveled to cities, such as New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Richmond, in search for opportunity. In 1835, Poe grounded his author career as an editor with the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. Although, the author struggled with friendly ties with the paper as he quickly grew the reputation of a cut-throat critic. Most of his later works were not published until after the 1830s in which he slowly began to build his fame. He published works such as “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, and “The Raven”. The authors life was one of many difficulties. Poe constantly battled money with a gambling problem and the lack of popularity in his literary works. Although, his profession later became an editor in Southern Literary Messenger and wrote short stories and poems, such as “The Raven” and “The Tell Tale Heart”. The works of such an influential author modified the short story and created the genera of mystery novels. Although, the unfortunate departure of the influential author bewilders many. Some researchers believed that the author was cooped by a gang and died from severe wounds from beating and intoxication. Others believe the possibility of him dying of medical issues, such as a brain tumor or an infection are feasible. However, due to the lack of an autopsy and the little information that is known about the perplexing events that occurred to Poe in the dark empty streets of Baltimore, the mystery of Edgar Allan Poe’s death lives
