Each article examined the on-going changes of hip-hop with many of the artists massively influenced and inspired by one another. The main change throughout the flourishing years of Hip hop is the discernable level of lyricism. Lyricism is known as an artist's expression of emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way aka the quality of being lyrical. True lyricism in mainstream Hip-hop has taken a major transformation since the underground urban movement originated in the late 1970s in Brooklyn, New York.

Starting off in late 70s-early 80s, Hip hop was known for its excitement. Known for being fun and cool due to its vibrant beats, rhyming words and bass that delivered verse by verse, Hip-hop got the party people on their toes. With lyrics cleverly written and well thought of, music was known as poetry. Hip hop at the time intended to speak the three P’s: politics, party, and perception. Artists’ such as Will Smith and Kid N’ Play wrote great raps during this era that well represents the new genre of hip hop music at the time. During this time, music was actually listened to. During this era, “gangsta rap” was established. Artists’ like e famous rap group, N.W.A (N*ggas With Attitude,) or famous rapper Nas, or Jay-Z made music that represented the artists’ lifestyle. Gangsta rap was known to signify the rappers crucial experiences they faced on a daily basis in which was affiliated with poverty, and drugs. The lyricism throughout the songs during this time hit close to home with the artists’ as they spoke out about the harsh realities of the ghetto.
