In hip hop music; it is important to have a unique sound and flavor. The only way to differ ones self from the rest of the artists in the genre is to create your own style. In hip-hop, all things seem to center around the concepts of: flow, layering, and ruptures in the line. In hip hop, music can be displayed in many different angles from circular motion, scripted phrases moving horizontally, to a abruptly breaking the beat in order to create fluidity and flow. Rapping in songs privileges the idea of flow, layering and ruptures in the line. Rappers “ flow” speak to the ideas of the ability to easily move through lyrics with a swagger about it.
