Nomadic tribes ruled in Southwest Asia throughout this period. The caste system existed in India from time of the Aryans but as Muslim populations began to enter into the region and take control, the caste system underwent changes. In the 11th century the caste system adapted to include the Muslim populations into the hierarchy.
The British improved and modernized India which formed their efficiency that they have today. They established railroads and bridges so people can travel thru their country easier. The British also ingrained a fair trading system between India and British. Some may claim that it was not fair because the Indian textiles were getting sold less and less. From 1790 and so on the sales of Indian textiles progressively declined (Doc. 6).
The British empire had taken over many colonies, India refused to be one of them. Britain set up trading posts in three cities. One of those cities, the mughal empire collapsed and britain 's posts quickly took control. Britain found that India was very valuable with the resources that they could easily take and use to sell to the high population of India. Britain put the justice and military system into place for India which made an efficient profit for them and made them all in all knowledgeable.
Have you ever heard of the ancient ruler that unified most of modern-day India? In 268 B.C.E Asoka first took leadership of the Mauryan Empire. Not too long after that, Asoka invaded Kalinga in 261 BCE. 200,000 Kalingans died as a result of his conquest. Events throughout Asoka's life portrayed him as a villain.
They also have a higher standard of living, better sanitation, and a better means of transportation (Doc4). In addition, the coming of the British brought an end to the slave trade, infanticide, and brought the value of India’s exportation trade up (Doc5). The British used the idea of “White Man’s Burden” in order to bring civilization and justice to the “barbarians” and westernize them in a way. The British also brought free trade into India and while they were there became one of the wealthiest countries because of everything being extracted out of it. Lastly, the British kept peace on the region and introduced Western technologies.
After the Neolithic Revolution Era, civilizations in Asia and Northeast Africa started to form. All of the civilizations in that area were located near water, so that’s why they were all called, River Valley Civilizations. The most advanced ancient river valley civilization was the Indus Valley Civilization. According to Document 5, it states that “While the cities of Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt were built with very little planning...the cities of the Indus Valley were sophisticatedly planned. The cities were built on a grid system.”
Many things effected the classical ages. The five classical ages being compared and contrasted are Greece, Rome, Han China, Gupta India, and Olmec. The size of territory and religion effected the legacy. Each age was impacted on either mathematical and scientific theories or their practical technology. Most classical ages had monumental buildings or important things.
Southeast of the Byzantine Empire, another emperor established a united kingdom in India. His name was Chandragupta. At first, Chandragupta only ruled a small kingdom near the Ganges River, but eventually he and his successors conquered all of northern India. Since each of the emperors had “Gupta” in their last name, the rulers of India during this period were called the Gupta Dynasty. During this age, India experienced a time of peace. The people produced great art, wrote advanced books in math and astronomy, and made medical advances that rival modern day medicine.
The political and economic themes in Indian society changed as different emperors ruled and new empires arose. This change occurred from the start of the Mauryan empire being an extremely militaristic and agricultural based society to the end of the Gupta empire making india a flourishing place of art literature, science, mathematics, medicine, and much more that changed the political ideas and economic structure of
But at this moment, I would like to briefly discuss the positive effects that British colonialism brought to India. First, Britain completely destroyed some Indian feudal societies and customs, which helped to promote the development of India’s modernization. Secondly, Britain established a model of Western capitalist society in India, thus laying the foundation for India’s economic development and making a great progress in Indian society. Overall, the British influence on Indian society was not only superficial, but a powerful impact on Indian’s traditional social structures and values. In other words, Britain changed the Indian civilization with western civilization and transformed the Indian society with the Western system.
India had been invaded often, due to its fertile land, opportunities for trade and its wealth. This lead to a mixture of people, cultures, languages and religions in India. All empires in history had a high in their history but they all eventually came to their demise. The Ottoman Empire and the Ming Dynasty both had ways they gained, consolidated and maintained their power while they were at their highest point. They had significant leaders that lead to these successful points. The Ottoman Empire covered parts of Asia, Europe and Africa controlled by their leader named Suleiman.
They were able to expand the empire as well as unite the many different peoples and religions within the area. Soon Great Britain decided to take over thinking it was the best thing for them and the people, although the Indians thought differently. When the British came to India their main goal was to expand their empire. They thought that they would do it in a way that was fair for everyone. Although, they were going to take over India,
Building an Empire becomes problematic when the colonizers know nothing about the territory being colonized. Britain began colonizing India in the 1700s, completely ignorant about the people of India and their cultural and religious beliefs. Ignorance comes from a lack of knowledge. This lack of knowledge can be by choice, like in this situation. Despite their ignorance, Englishmen still came into India with an arrogant attitude.
The westernisation effected many factors of Indian society including lifestyle, dressing, communication, religions, education, dressing , food and various habits. It is quite evident fact that India as a country has changed a lot after the colonisation era, some were beneficial changes like transportation which included trains, bringing an international language to the country. but in most of the cases the effects had a devastating effect on the countries economy, the country considered a golden bird before has turned out to an under developed nation at the end of colonisation. This paper of our aims at bringing in on how the colonisation has effected Indian society, by studying a few important factors effected.[1] INRODUCTION: India a land of multiple diversities has a great and ancient culture. It’s one of the oldest and richest cultures which is now under serious threat as western culture is laying strong foundation in india and slowly wiping out indian culture.
