On May 25, 1951 President John F. Kennedy made a speech in front the U.S Congress. He challenged them to successfully and safely send and return an American to the moon and back. But he wanted them to complete this in the matter of a decade or also known as 10 years. He wanted the U.S to complete this large task so fast because we were in the middle of a race. The Race To Space. The Cold War. Many people call it many things but the Cold War was a period of time were the Soviet Union , or otherwise known as Russia was in a Race against the United States to see what was beyond the horizon. At the time of the speech that forever changed the U.S.A, the National Areonautics and Space Administration also known as {NASA} was only 3 years into the program. Kennedy was the United States of America's president. He was the one to push technology advances in the U.S. But before the U.S could even think about sending anyone or anything to the moon in October of 1957 the Soviet Union Successfully launched "Sputnik 1". It was the first artificial satellite in the world. So Kennedy made it his mission to do the same but even bigger. But the government had some concerns over the Soviet Union's capabilities to launch nuclear weapons. But they carried on. After many challenges overcome, Tring to beat The Soviet Union , To meet the goal that Kennedy made, on July 20, 1969 America finally caught up to the Soviet Union and passed them.
