John Lasseter, producer of Toy Story, not only created the first award winning animated film but also created a story line that will last with children throughout their ages. Toy Story teaches children important lessons in a creative way through the life of action figures as they compete to be Andy’s favorite toy. Through his unique use of theme, character and plot, spectators can identity how director John Lasseter produced the first award winning animated film that will continually be engraved in childhood memories for many generations. Toy Story teaches children that it is not always about you. Woody, Andy’s favorite toy, was jealous and insecure when a new toy arrived in Andy’s life. Until this point in Woody’s life, he was always the favorite. He ordered other toys to do their job and he got the most “playing time”. The two characters are very different in their own sense. Woody was jealous and insecure when Buzz arrived; he was afraid of losing his supremacy over the other toys. He did not like the fact that Buzz came along and slowly was becoming Andy’s favorite. Buzz was a space hero; he thought his spaceship crashed landed on Andy’s bed and was only trying to return to his outer space planet. Their sturdy personalities collided because there could only be one favorite toy. After being separated from Andy and the other toys, the two are forced to overcome their differences and work together in order to return home. Woody was able to look pass himself and see there is more in the toy world then being the favorite time who gets the most playing time.
