Osama bin Laden's Impact on life in the United States Osama bin Laden is a name that has echoed throughout the United States for the last 20 years, an individual with a mission so extreme he changed life in the United States indefinitely. With the death of thousands and over thirty-three billion dollars in damages, it was clear that Osama wanted nothing more than to destroy the West. His hatred stemmed from the United States occupation of his homeland, which led him to pursue radical Islamic beliefs to kill the West. He saw killing the west as a way of pleasing Allah, so he planned and executed 9/11 following what he considered to be the “failed” truck bombing of February 26th. His hatred for the United States and other similar countries stemmed from several factors, with the most notable being their involvement in the Middle East and his radical Islamic beliefs. A definitively racist stereotype has been placed on Muslims as a result of Osama and his attacks, but his beliefs are far from that of a typical Muslim. While Islamic beliefs have been seen as extreme and radical in our society, they are not represented by those of the Bin Laden family. Traditional Muslim beliefs, including strict adherence to religious practices such as the well-known hijab that, in some countries, is a requirement for women to wear strictly, along with things like strong gender roles. Gender roles are among the most well-known aspects of Islamic culture and suffer from modern-day disapproval. To many in the West, it is seen as both misogynistic and dehumanizing for women, but in their culture, it is not only widely accepted, but also expected by most, if not all, households to uphold these …show more content…

They believe their life is nothing more than a vessel for Allah, “that Allah guides and rewards those who sacrifice themselves for a noble and holy cause” (Gunaratna 10), with a noble and holy cause being a direct attack on those who oppose or threaten their lifestyle. Their hatred of the United States is directly linked to the threatening nature of the U.S. in their home country, feeling as if their culture and ideals are not allowed on their land. This hatred is what caused organizations like Al Qaeda and the Taliban to be created and is the primary reason for the 9/11 disaster and other similar attacks.
