“The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare is a very well-written play, in it, there are many themes that put the story together. For instance, there is love and all the different kinds shown, fate versus coincidence as in is it destiny or just so happened to occur, or destruction of innocence, and how the events change and mature the characters. Along with the destruction of innocence, there are a few subthemes such as splitting from family, violence from misunderstandings, drastic measures, and rash decisions. Romeo and Juliet are both young and innocent people at the start however as they meet and are placed in a position of pressure they begin to change. She is still young, only 14, so she hadn’t thought about marriage and does not particularly want to get married. When her mother asks if she is willing to marry Paris, she replied, “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move; but no more deep will I endart mine eye, than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” (Act I Scene III Lines 98-100) Juliet tells her mother that she will only marry Paris if she loves him and her mother and father approve of the marriage. At this time she seems like she would not even check a guy out without her parents’ permission. Romeo is introduced as a peaceful, heartbroken and loving person. He may be older than Juliet but he is presumed to be around 20 years old, which is still young and innocent. He spends his time moping, depressed because he was rejected by a girl who wanted to be a nun. His best friend, Mercutio, calls him gentle and loving. Romeo does not want to get into any fights or cause any violence. (uh idk man i cant think rn but find a quote bc you need on. Juliet did not intentionally confess her love. Romeo jumps in because hes impulsive. Shes like woah man slow down and lets sleep and pick up on this
