How Did Temujin's Journey To Become The Great Khan

Temujin’s journey to become the Great Khan was like no other. Being a steppe and rural society made it difficult for tribes to unit, as there was so much land and individual tribes unit. Many groups disagreed over independence and the lack of resources and governing bodies. The steppe and the disagreements between tribes didn’t stop mongolian soldier, Temujin. Temujin had one goal; to become the Great Khan, leader of the Mongolian empire. Temujin became the “Great Khan” through his means of uniting the disparate people of the Chinggis Khan and finding the Mongol Empire.

Temujin became the Great Khan through his brotherly relationship Jamuqa. Temujin and Jemuqa became blood brothers at the young age of 11 and renewing the affirmative as adults

It is believed that the Tatars were the most powerful tribe in the Mongol tribes (Tristano). Not only were the Tatars the most powerful tribe, they were also Temujin’s sworn enemy because of their power and the killing of Temujin’s father (Mongol). Since the Tatars were Temujin’s sworn enemy, Temujin calls a council and sets out to “destroy and thoroughly plunder the Tatars” (Secret, 76). In the end, the Tatars lost to Temujin, resulting to the idolizing of the booty. The boot plays a special role in Lane’s book. It is said, “if (Temujin and his people) triumph, they shouldn’t stop for the booty-it will always be there for them” (Lane, 25). This infers that Temujin stresses the importance of warfare ahead of the booty. The booty was indirectly used as a reward for the chiefs, but the ultimate goal was to defeat the Tatars. Temujin treats his half brother, Belgutei, poorly. Temujin orders his brother to win the battle, but doesn’t carry out the command to win, he just keeps fighting (Secret, 77). With this, he orders that Belgutei cannot join the council and must judge others guilty of theft and falsehood (Secret, 78). This is especially important when it comes to the marriage between Temujin and the sisters: Yisui and Yisugen. Temujin married both sisters because Yisugen, who Temujin married after Borde, believed that her sister Yisui was superior to her and more fit to be a ruler.
