The 1950s gave rise to strict social norms, the civil rights movement, the Beat generation and McCarthyism. The 1950s and the 1960s were more prosperous for some more than others. With the economy booming people were more inclined to buy more goods.(Doc C) The Black community was barred from the same opportunities as white people. While whites moved into the suburbs blacks moved to the inner cities.(Doc B)
The 1960’s was also a decade of dramatic change and turmoil across the world. There were nuclear threats across the world including France, China, the United States and Cuba and the dramatic construction of the Berlin wall in Europe. Anti-war protests, social revolutions, the civil rights movement, the gay rights movement and the second wave of progression of feminism were especially important in making the world we have today. Politically important figures such as Martin Luther King Jr and John F Kennedy were also assassinated during the 1960’s which caused uproar in America. The 1960’s was also the decade the first man landed and walked on the moon, Neil Armstrong which had many opportunities for scientists to discover more about the universe.

As World War II came to an end, the United States entered the 50s. This decade became a major influential time that brought many cultural and societal changes. Categories such as the economy, where a boom in new products increased, the technology world which incorporated new medicines and computers, entertainment when the television became popular and the overall lifestyles that Americans adapted to. All of these topics reshaped and created several advancements throughout society during the 1950s.
I was to immediately move across country to live with my strict uncle and his family of six after my parents discovered I had a boyfriend at the age of fifteen. They were afraid I was brainwashed by the American culture. They thought it was best to move us from Phoenix, Arizona to Shelby Township, Michigan to be around people of my ethnicity, mostly my family. I remember crying the entire way there, the tears running down my face began to expose streaks due to the non-water-proof loreal foundation I had on. my father tried to convince me that my destiny was in Michigan.
