Michael Jordan is remembered as basketball's greatest player ever. He's the man who represented a cultural shift from the '80s to the '90s (Strauss, 2013). Michael Jordan was a professional basketball player in the 80s and the 90s. He was born in 1963 and was drafted in the 1984 NBA draft. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls and had a great impact the culture of america and the game of basketball. The introduction of Michael Jordan to professional basketball changed the culture by popularity, game style, and the Jordan brand.

One way Jordan changed the culture was by changing the culture and popularity of basketball. “His style extended beyond the court as he became an international icon. He was so influential that his imprint remained as strong today as it ever did” (Strauss, 2013). Im sure if you asked anyone in America who Michael Jordan is they would answer with a popular basketball player. “Michael Jordan, was arguably the most recognized and revered of those Americans to billions of people worldwide” (Lowe, 2018). The second way Michael Jordan changed the culture was by his game style. Overall Michael Jordan was a very good basketball player, but he played the game different than other basketball players. “Jordan and his trademark aerobatics are today an American icon, and have made him one of the greatest athletes of all time” (Harriman, 2017). He changed the culture because of this. Finally the last and the most impactful way MJ affected American culture was by his own Jordan brand. Michael Jordan changed kids clothing and sports clothing because of his brand. Many people changed their clothing style because of what Jordan did with his clothing and shoe brand. What was once a clubby, parochial business with relatively narrow appeal is today a thriving, global, high-tech industry that attracts fans of all ages, ethnic groups, and cultures ( Johnson, 1998).
