We are now just one click away from buying a car or communicating with someone halfway across the world. “The Internet has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. ”("Internet Society."). Scientists and engineers like Roberts and Kleinrock worked very hard to put their ideas down on paper to describe this global communication through a network. The first form of the Internet was originally called ARPANET.
All five of these inventions shaped and paved the way to the America we know today. The radio was a huge deal to many Americans. These magic boxes allowed Americans from all different parts of American to hear the same exact thing that they were. This idea of mass media started to emerge with this invention.

Jaylen Poe Mr. Shedlock ELA 8 January 24, 2023 How Radios Affected Society The invention of the radio brought life and entertainment to all of America. It was invented to send transmitters over long distances. Broadcasters send messages using radio waves instead of wires. It began broadcasting commercials after being able to transmit sound.
In 1832, a New York University professor developed his version of the telegraph including his own Morse code. As the telegraph started improving it made delivering messages much faster. When reading the article Imagining the Internet you learn “It took days, weeks and even months for messages to be sent from one location to a far-flung position. After the telegraph cable was stretched from coast to coast in the 1850’s, a message from New York to London could be sent in mere minutes, and the words suddenly became smaller.” (Imaging the Internet- Telegraph)
Going to San Francisco from New York City took only six days. Before the railroads, the trip took months” (document 5). The machines like the steam engine made it easier to get from one place to another. Inventions like that made it a lot easier for people to go visit other family members. “The photo” (document 3).
This document belongs to the information period of United States history. This period was important to the U.S, because it was the beginning toward people from various parts of the world being able to keep connected with one another. This period in history bought the computer the internet. The internet is what enabled not only different people to stay connected with one another but it also enabled research to be done quicker.
The telegraph improved American life and made it easier to communicate across long distances. This was very useful in business. It allowed loved ones to also assure their families that they were all right. Of course only a few words were allowed to be sent, but it was still useful. Telegraphs weren't nearly as useful as the telephone but that came in later on.
We Americans now depend on most electronics to go about our lives. We use electronics to communicate, find information, socialize, and now to do homework. Back in the day before the United States were born people like Ben Franklin and others were creating these wonderful inventions to help easy the life of colonial people. The Middle Colonies needed a plow to fasten the process of farming crops. The virus smallpox started an epidemic and a vaccine would help lower the risk of people getting the disease.
It was created and utilized in a way that made communication easier. “The Telegraph allowed instant communication over vast distances for the first time in human history”(elon.edu) . It allowed people to send messages longer distances. It improved many areas of work, like markets and transportation systems, by sharing information on the area. People could also use morse code on this machine to secretly send messages or ask for help.
In the story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, Poe uses irony throughout story to allow the reader a little inside and humor on what is about to happen. Throughout the story examples of verbal, dramatic, and situational irony can be found easily and are helpful is foreshadowing what is to come. Verbal irony is when one thing is said, but another is meant. For example, when Montresor runs into Fortunato at the beginning of the story, he says, “My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met” (237); However, he actually means that he himself is happy to see Fortunato because he will profit from this meeting, not Fortunato.

Well, all this and much more was made possible by Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas Edison was a creative inventor that pushed the science world forward 100 years and had a major positive impact on his decade, the world, and even the rest of history. Thomas Edison had a major positive impact on his society. A large portion of jobs and inventions can be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Time and Distance Overcome Every time a new life-altering invention is introduced to the world, the device may be used for ill intentions, no matter the good intentions, the well-meant possibilities and the true purposes of said invention. The telephone is no exception. “Time and Distance Overcome” by Eula Biss from 2008 points out the twisted and revolting ways the telephone poles were being used, or rather misused, during the first few years of its existence. The text contains two obvious themes; the invention of the telephone by Alexander Bell and its history alongside the telephone pole’s use as a weapon in the race riots against the African Americans in this period.
