The Great Gatsby takes place in the “roaring ‘20s” and there’s a lot going on during this time. During this time there are so many changes taking place all over, economically, socially, industrially, etc. Though there were a lot of exciting changes and increased wealth for some people, however there was a lot of found corruption in government throughout the ‘20s. From attorney general Harry D. who accepted money to not prosecute criminals, to the interior secretary Albert F. who took 500 thousand dollars from private businesses in exchange for leases for government oil reserves. There was just a lot happening during this time period. So many iconic figures were formed during this time such as Charles Lindbergh who flew over the Atlantic Ocean without stopping and being the first to do so. Another big celebrity at the time was a woman named Gloria Swanson who had made it big in silent films during the time. This was a big impact as during the ‘20s was really when celebrities started becoming more common than ever before which changed social standings and could even change political views when certain celebrities shed light on their political views. They were more to promote loyalty and better business for the businesses using them than they were to make it convenient to use.
