The expanding immigrant population had a large influence on education. People were coming from all over the world in search of opportunity. Whether this meant jobs or fleeing for equality America was gaining many immigrants. So how did this affect American Education? There are many ways how the schools were changed due to the number of immigrants. One influence was the great depression and during that time unemployment was high and schools were mandatory until age sixteen. This lead to immigrants being forced into the classroom even if they wanted to go or not. This made a huge problem in classrooms because a teacher was expected to teach students that English may not have been their main language. You can imagine how this created a huge problem
