The world around us is ever changing. Humanity seems to continue walking down the beaten path they made for themselves, oblivious to their fading surroundings. As humans we create technology, our pride and joy, yet it is what can be called one of the only flaws of humanity.Cell phones, the latest craze, are rapidly sweeping the world, and spreading like a wildfire. And as they take over the globe, they are also changing the ways humans behave. However, with our nation changing, there is one integral piece that we mustn't let cell phones interfere with, and that is education and schooling, the bread and butter of America's development. Cell phones take a variety of factors in order to become the widely heralded devices that they are today. For one, the small box that is the phone itself is not very reliable, as even a simple fall will cause permanent, if not fatal damage to the phone. When walking, it is unusually common for a careless person to drop their phone. This creates serious problems, and it can cost upwards of $200 just to fix a cracked screen. Also, it will disallow its use for the time it is dysfunctional, and if this is often, than students would not benefit from that. Not only this, but cell phones may also have some software, that is to say, operating system, issues. For example, schools may have spotty internet connection at best, and this is evidenced in Hillsborough Township Public Schools. Nowadays, it is not an uncommon occurrence for a student to lose internet connection, and therefore, would not be able to use their phones for the purposes they intended to use. Likewise, a smart phone may not be able to do certain tasks for a plethora of reasons. One case in point would be that sometimes, there is a need to access a presentation that is being used in school, and this could create mayhem, as the list of reasons this malfunction could happen could wrap the globe. Further on in life, past the schooling years, there arises a need for communication skills, specifically oral communication. In the workplace, it is the quintessential skill. When presenting a point, oral communication skills will help convey a message as clear as glass. Furthermore, when just making a point to someone during normal conversation, this could be the difference between a few thousand dollars in salary, a subtle one, but one that could make a major impact on a person’s foreseeable future. With the use of cell phones, this means that people are not comfortable talking face to face, yet they talk all the time while on their devices. Thus, cell phones should not be brought to school, as the point of schooling is to teach the skills required in a workplace, but cellphones only detract from this. Also, cell phones do not teach them to follow directions. As mentioned earlier, it is true that distraction do not allow a student to do their work effectively, and as a direct consequence, this makes them prone to ignoring distractions. An absent minded individual does not do well in school, and this is due to the fact that they are spending too much time inside of their devices.
