After reading Scott Russell Sanders', "Under the Influence", it got me thinking, if these were examples from his past life growing up with an alcoholic as a father and how it effects his life now, what are the effects does it have on other adults who grew up with an addictive parent? After reading one article I found that most children who grew up in alcoholic homes reported significantly less utilization of interpersonal resources as a child, also had reported more emotional and psychological problems in adulthood and had significantly more family disruptions characterized by higher divorce rate, premature prenatal and sibling death. Alcoholism is a serious addiction that can affect both the individual and their loved ones. As we learned from our classroom topic, alcohol, children are at risk to become future alcoholics when raised in an alcoholic home. Pip from Bottled Up is a great example of what a child can go through when raised by an alcoholic parents. Having an alcoholic in the family puts a lot of stress on the other family members. As we saw, the Pip's mother started used pills in order for her to get her mind off all the stress and drama that is happening in the home.

A common problem that contributes to alcoholism is a thing called genetic predisposition. Genetic predisposition is when someone has a higher likelihood to get a disease due to their genetics. Someone who is born with a genetic predisposition has an increased likelihood to suffer from alcoholism whether it be from an addictive personality or another genetic issue. A way to work around this problem is to be educated.
I have been a mother since I was ten years old. I have played the role as a parent to my father for the past seven years of my life. Just like the other fifty percent of kids in America, my parents separated when I was in the fourth grade. I can not cognitively remember an entire day where my father was not belligerently intoxicated, and I cannot mentally count how many times I begged him not to drive in his usual mindless state. At first, everyone who starts drinking alcoholic beverages, thinks that its something normal, and that it's okay to do it, but what they really don't know yet, is that this particular habit has a way of turning itself into one of the worst addictions in the world.
