This report has examined how digital technology can alter the way history is presented and analysed three South Australian First World War organisations. The contribution of information regarding these homefront organisations to SA History Hub is important in History SA’s goal of continuing to develop the history of South Australia. History is perceived as ‘boring’ due to its nature as an information intensive subject that has little relevance to today’s world. Digital technology can help improve this image through its ability to change the medium and present complicated topics in condensed forms. The potential for transforming this information into weekly podcasts or videos is there and would make the information more accessible for people who aren’t inherently interested in the subject. When information is more accessible and requires less effort on the behalf of the user to interact with, engagement with the content should increase. When users have to use less energy to engage with content, the more likely they are to view it. This is evident in the rise of Buzzfeed as an online news organisation, who are able to condense complicated topics and stories into ‘click-bait’ headlines and dot points.

Similarly continuing the expansion of complementary apps and websites for historical events would be beneficial. As the proliferation of smartphones throughout society continues, the demand for apps and tools that allows for users to engage with content anywhere and anytime will only increase.
