Globalization has had both positive and negative impacts for all regions across the world. Each region to this day is still influenced by globalization in different ways, whether it be through economic, political or cultural standpoints. Globalization still effects each region in various ways that cause these regions to function as they do today based on what happened in the past to connect the world and its regions. Southeast Asia has positively been affected economically by globalization. The southeast Asian countries produce nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon, coffee, cloves, tea and other spices that other countries consumers want. Due to colonization each of these regions have dramatically changed culturally and economically. In Oceania, in countries such as Australia, it became a penal colony for convicts from England and Ireland. By the late 1700’s due to disease, over 90% of the Aboriginal population was wiped out, and native languages became lost. The English language became more prevalent, and native languages went from over 750 different languages to less than 200 by the early 21st century due to European colonization. Also due to government policies Aboriginal culture was purposely attempted to be rid of through “diluting” and breeding out the Aboriginals. This eventually in the 1860’s to the 1960’s led the European controlled government to implement policies that allowed officials to forcibly take half aboriginal and half white children from their families and force them to live in a facility owned by the government. These facilities taught and forced the children to speak English, which is why in Australia the predominant language is English. The government also forced the children to forget their culture and shun it, along with their native religions to convert to Christianity and eventually be able to join within the white society and culture (class notes, Oceania). Therefore, this is why Australia speaks predominantly English and it mostly Christian, along with the explanation as to why the culture in Oceania has changed as many languages and customs have disappeared due to the government policies. In other regions, such as Sub-Saharan Africa colonization has not only changed their culture due to globalization, but also their economic standpoints. Due to colonization, the Europeans caused an absence of infrastructure economically within the African countries as they migrated out of the region, this also caused extensive poverty throughout Sub-Sharan
