How Does Globalization Affect Brazil

Economical Aspect This aspect of globalisation depends on two dimensions, foreign direct investment and trade liberalisation. Foreign Direct Investment consists of capital inflows which quantify the amount of exposure a country has to foreign capital and commerce. Trade liberalisation encompasses the restrictions, or lack thereof, imposed on capital movement and trade. Nonetheless, various authors have employed different factors to compute economic globalisation. These factors include the number of persons hired in exporting firms, the average number of individuals employed by foreign-owned enterprises and foreign direct investment (FDI) outflows (Çelik and Basdas, 2010). Brazil is a member of many of the International organisations including Mercosur and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Mercosur is a trading block comprising of the leading countries in South America. It was formed as a common market for Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Brazil utilises its membership in Mercosur to gain political and economic advantage over other powers and organisations. Brazil acts as the leading country and regional powerhouse in the organisation.
With countries like Uruguay and Paraguay leaning more towards supranational governance, while Brazil does not, the Mercosur organisation offers an excellent platform for all the countries to accept globalisation. Many countries in the Mercosur use it as an effective tool for international negotiations and participation in the global economy (Klom, 2008). Furthermore, one of the central tenets of this organisation is its belief in democratic principles. Brazil used the organisation to punish Paraguay for opposing the admission of Venezuela.
