If the movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have such a negative impact on public health, should steps be taken to reduce these flows? What other options are there for lowering the spread of global diseases?
As outlined on Globalization101.org, research showed that lack of trade is a factor correlated to political instability and in general lack of connections with other countries means that each population is less open to diversity: this makes me think that reducing flows of goods from country to country may reduce health issues, but it would have serious repercussions on the cultural development of a country and it would also be negative from a political point of view, causing instability. However, it can be questioned whether

What measures can be taken to reduce the incidence of these diseases?
Just like a disease could be brought from country to country "via humans", it can happen that it travels hidden into food which is shipped far away from where it originated. As a consequence, a higher trade of food also may have the spread of a higher number of food-borne illnesses as a result. Similar problems can be overcome with stricter, more technological and more efficient controls over what is traded and I believe that a lot of steps have already been taken toward this direction in the last few years and that the situation has really improved if compared to, for example, 40 years ago. However, these controls may always fail in detecting a new and still undiscovered diseases. What would really be able to make a difference in this field is a stronger education on such themes so that everyone (both adults and children, both men and women) would be able to recognize whether certain food or practices are risky for their health or not. Initiatives for achieving a good level of education on this matter may include both specific classes held during school time for younger people and social-marketing initiatives built in order to raise awareness among
