The protagonist, Katniss Everdeen lives in Panem which is built on 12 excessive classes to divide the poor and wealthy. She is from District 12 which is the last and deprived classes of them all. District 12’s job was to mine, search for coal to provide the Capitol. In her family, she became the chief since her father died by an explosion while working in the mines. She now provides her family, food, shelter, comfort, safety and love towards her vanquished mother, and delightful sister. Katniss presents fondness when Prim took a malnourished cat. “Prim begged so hard, cried even, I had to let the cat stay.” Katniss has a very stoic personality which affects the way people think about her. But on rare occasions, she can expose her true and pure feelings to someone. For instance, a boy who was chosen to be with Katniss in the Annual Games called Peeta Mellark threw burnt bread to Katniss once when she was hungry. Her first impression of him was him being a nice and caring person. But as the novel unfolds, we see her refuse to love him back seeing as Peeta also loves Katniss. But as the story goes on, she couldn’t handle herself from loving him because he spent many cases together in the Capitol, Arena and few in District 12.
