In this world we live in, people face adversity every single day. They face it through physical adversity, mental adversity and one of the most common is social adversity. However, as shown in history, literature and even films, people possess an ability to triumph over the most daunting adversities and come out stronger and more resilient than ever. By examining these stories, it gives us the courage to be more resilient by showing us what human beings really can achieve when facing adversity. Nullah overcame adversity throughout the movie in several ways. Despite being separated from his mother and facing discrimination based on his heritage, Nullah maintains a strong connection to his culture. This is shown through his relationship with his grandfather. Nullah also overcomes adversity by finding allies such as the Lady Ashley who is a motherly figure to Nullah and the Drover who protects and guides Nullah. By making these bonds, he learns to trust other people and learns to be more dependent on allies’ support. Near the end of the movie, he overcomes adversity by escaping Mission Island with the Driver. After getting shot at by the planes flying over Mission Island, Nullah shows a deep connection to the land and heritage which is an essential piece of his aboriginal culture. This link to the land is a spiritual feeling that is crucial to Aboriginal culture.
