Nursing theories greatly influence nursing practices and education. Grand theory and Middle Range theory are the two main subcategories that they fall under. While Grand Theory and Middle Range Theory strive to promote nursing knowledge and patient care, their breadth, abstraction, and practical applicability are very different. Risjord (2019) states that grand theories are broad, abstract frameworks that explain important nursing practice occurrences. Although they cover various nursing care topics, they might not be applicable in some clinical contexts.

For that assignment, I read Creasia & Friberg (2011), chapter 5. For the assignment, I had to choose a nursing theory or theorist that most supports my values and I had to describe the importance of theory-based practice. This assignment had the most value to me because I was able to read and learn about the many different types of nursing theories and theorists. Learning the nursing theories and theorists put my values into perspective and it made me think about why I valued my values. As I read through each theory, I was quickly able to figure out which theory I identified myself with.
When thinking about my personal philosophy of nursing the word diversity comes to mind. I myself come from a diverse background. Being Hispanic and living in different parts of the united states I have had the pleasure of experiencing different cultures. As a nurse, I have encountered diverse patient experiences. For example the Chinese elderly woman who would not take her medication or eat.
Theoretical thinking is essential to nursing and helps guide nursing practice. Theory is defined as “the creation of relationships among two or more concepts to form a specific view of a phenomenon” (Higgins & Moore, 2012, p. 282 para. 2). It is made up of four theories, which include meta-theory, grand theory, middle range theory, and micro theory.
Nursing practice requires both critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Critical thinking is the process of deliberate higher level thinking to define a patient’s problem, examine the evidence-based practice in caring for the patient’s, and make options in the delivery of optimal care. Critical thinking involves the demarcation of statements of fact, judgment, and opinion. The progression of critical thinking requires the nurse to think imaginatively, use reflection, and engage in logical thinking (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2013). Critical thinking is a vital skill needed for the recognition of patient’s problems and the execution of interventions to endorse effectual care outcomes (Bittencourt & Crossetti, 2012).
My knowledge in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) continues to expand as I progress through the DNP program. The knowledge I have attained while in the study of the DNP I and DNP II is priceless. For example, recognizing stakeholders and utilizing networking has helped me to progress on my DNP project (Gokenbach, 2012). I also have a better understanding as well as the purpose of a DNP project. My mentors have been great in directing me in remaining on the right track.
Theory Description The nursing theory chosen is that of need theory by Virginia Henderson. Henderson has contributed a lot in nursing throughout her journey as a nurse. She intended to define the unique focus of nursing practice, but at the end, it ends up being one the nursing theories that are being used in every clinical setting. Her contribution has helped shaped the way nurses care for their patients and the components she developed help serves as guidelines which nurses used to care for patients.
The purpose of this paper is to describe how nursing’s philosophical foundations influence nursing practice and my personal philosophy. My Philosophy I have always viewed nursing as an art; throughout history, nurses have derived conceptual models and theories from other disciplines to create nursing theories and apply them to clinical practice. “As nursing theoretical thinking has evolved, there has been a need to embrace both the practical aspects of practice while dealing with those questions that have classically been the purview of philosophy” (Pesut & Johnson, 2007, p. 116).

Philosophy of Nursing Everyone’s values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own.

Philosophies According to Alligood (2014b), philosophies are specific theories that focus on one or more metaparadigm concepts in a wide spectrum philosophical way (p. 43). For a person to understand philosophies it is required to understand the knowledge type, metaparadigms. Metaparadigm Metaparadigm is the vast perspective of a discipline and a way to describe a concern specifically to a profession or department (Alligood, 2014b, p.42).

With proper ventilation, clean air, lack of noise , proper lighting, and adequate elimination of waste. Are a few factors she believed and can be observed and maintained. 2.Sister Calista Roy- Roy’s Theory is based on, in which the individual views biopsychosocial being, in which a person adapt with the constant change of the environment.
