Before the visits, Scrooge never wished anyone Merry Christmas, and did not like people saying it. One example of this is when Scrooge is at his business working when his nephew invites him to his Christmas party. His nephew tells Scrooge that he is in love. Scrooge donating money to charity is an example of his character changing because he did not donate money earlier in the play. The portly man is surprised by this change of character and asks Scrooge if he is serious. A final example from before the ghosts’ visits is how before the visits, Scrooge thinks Christmas is a waste of money and a humbug. Finally, Scrooge celebrates Christmas and buys the Cratchits an expensive turkey. From greedy to generous, Scrooge’s miserly and rude personality changed to affectionate and free after the ghosts’
