Social Media plays an enormous role in social interactions. Posting a picture with someone, requesting to follow someone, or direct messaging someone, are all ways that we interact with each other online. It is very different from the traditional ways of courting someone and taking them out for the first time. With all of the vast ways to communicate cell phone to cellphone, there is little to no face to face interactions. Many people have heard the expression “chivalry is dead”, and in a way it is. With all of these quick and easy options for a mate, people see pictures of other attractive men/women, and compare them to their current partners which creates a problem for that couple. The saying “A picture speaks a thousand words” is commonly used and accepted, but i do not think that whoever said this had selfies in mind. Pictures can be very deceiving and may not be perceived as they were intended to be. With all of the editing, angles, and lighting that goes into taking a picture, at the end of this process the true picture can be altered in different, which does not give the person in it a fair representation. With “couple goals’ being a trending hashtag on almost every platform, there are many expectations and standards to strive for. These standards may be out of reach for some or even most couples. Couples have to be considered “goals” to be deemed successful, healthy and happy.
