Throughout the past two decades, journey to becoming a teacher has changed significantly. Everything from education to salary had been changed in some way or another. Twenty years ago, the education needed to become a teacher was different to what it is today. Back then, you needed a four year bachelor of science degree. It was essential to have a student teaching internship. Also, it was required that you took and passed the four part GRE test that was comprised of math, english, general knowledge, and an area of study. Finally, it was necessary to acquire a state certification. That is that is needed to become a teacher 20 years ago.

If someone wants to become a teacher now, there are more steps that need to be done. A four year bachelor of science is still needed and it is still required to have a student teaching internship. One thing that is different is that instead of a GRE test, students need to take a three part Praxis Exam which consists of general knowledge, an oral component, and a specialty area. One thing that is essential to maintain your license is Act 48 credits. Also, it is imperative that people secure Instructional two license that is for five years. Twenty years ago, some things that were needed were patience with other people and general communication skills. Also, it was necessary to specialize in one area. Teachers back then did not need to specialize in multiple areas, just one. People aspiring to become a teacher were also required to have organization skills. It was imperative to be able to file papers correctly and know how to grade and how to organize those grades. Teachers needed to be willing to advise extra-curricular activities.
