Many people enjoy physical activity each and every day, but do they know the history of it. Physical education had started promptly in the 1800s. Physical education is one of the number things people might enjoy performing. People might not know that they are performing some type of physical activities throughout there day. Physical activity doesn’t just mean performing sports or going to the gym, it means any type of body movements that requires you to use muscles; such as walking, cleaning, or even driving. So how did physical education start, what kind of activities were performed and how did they change throughout the years?

The first school to have physical education program was Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1866 California was the first state that passed a law requiring public schools to have exercise periods twice per day. After physical education was required in schools, they needed to have teachers to help teach the students about physical education. It wasn’t until 1950 that colleges had introduced majors in physical education.
