The poem has actually expressed the casual behavior of society towards abuse victims. People only use words as an expression but do not come for actual help. Nobody claims to be there for the victim instead they keep on carrying meaningless conversations which are not aimed in actually bettering off the conditions of the abuse victims. The word ‘Poem’ expresses the same notion of just using words but offering no help for the injured bodies.
This particular poem is about parents that have no idea what's going on in their kid's daily life and what they go through. With this type of action, the parents act as if all is good and make little to no effort to get involved in their day to day activities. This shows the kid that the parent does not care or seems like it. The kid will be influenced to do things they normally wouldn't do. If the parent would at least make an attempt to get involved, it may influence them for the better but until then it will not happen.

“I write… For youth who hide inside when the teacher ask for volunteers to read out aloud” as I read this line my heart skipped a beat because I know that feeling to well. This line alone sucked me in, I knew I had chosen the perfect poem. As I read this poem by Al Mills my feeling grew deeper and more complicated as the words developed onto the page. Addressing so many issues, and stereotypes that are within our community.
The tone of the poem seemed to stay constant throughout the poem. Scansion of this
In “The Trouble with Poetry”, and “Introduction to Poetry” Billy Collins focuses on the issue of forced inspiration, and the lack of appreciation readers, and aspiring poets have for the feel of poetry. In “Introduction to Poetry”, Collins mentions that some poetry enthusiasts try too hard to find the meaning of a poem; to try and decipher it like some ancient hieroglyphics, that they forget that poetry is not an essay and does not necessarily have to have a distinct message. In stanza’s seven and eight, the speaker states that poetry should be felt, and that what one poem means to a group of people could have a completely different effect on another group. In stanza eight “Feel the walls” is the speaker’s ways of saying that one should feel a poem and let the poem speak to them, instead of searching for what they believe to be its true meaning.
This poem clearly expresses how community and collaboration brings out the best in people by showing how she and her sister were going through hard times but were able to work together and comfort each
I made a lot of changes to my poems. For my haiku poem, I formatted it so it can be 5,7,5 syllables. For my ekphrasis poem, I tried to more specific. I talked about where the protesters are praying and their reason and I wrote more details about what happened after they prayed.
The poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan is to make the readers understand that there is hope for the ones who got, or even get bullied in school. Bullying happens every day in a regular school day and probably not on school days. “So we grew up believing that no one would ever fall in love with us, that we’d be lonely, forever.” (Line 23) The poet explains how by the countless names that the bullied endured, he thought no one could ever properly love the mistreated.
Lucretius On the Nature of the Universe “On the Nature of the Universe” is a very long poem written by Lucretius in which he portrays the reality of man in a godless universe and in a way tries to make men be fearless of death. One of his principals is “that nothing ever by divine power comes from nothing,” because according to him in his philosophy as a custom they must define the matter therefore “all things are made of atoms”, he defends the idea that the world and everything contained in it is pure matter ruled by mechanistic laws which control the movements of the atoms. But if this matter fails, death is the way.
There is such a bigger meaning to these poems on overcoming hardships in life that everyone has to go through. To not give up and to fight for what is
I think this poem describes the struggle beautifully. The reason I chose this poem specifically is because of how different it is from the other two I chose, the symbolism and figurative language is used
Within the text we see the effects of being bullied and this theme was shown as a spoken word poem. It is amazing the way he captures the different emotions and it really makes you reflect on life and how valuable other people are. The Poem starts with a simple story about Shane calling Pork Chops, Karate Chops and him climbing a tree, before realizing ‘fat kids are not designed to climb trees’. Shane then falls out of the tree and is taken to the principal 's
For example in stanza five there are two rhyming triplets. The tone of the poem also changes accordingly to the action in the poem, the rhyme, rhythm and measure. At first skeptical, almost discouraging, but after it gains hope. At a point that hope shatters and the tone becomes grave and sorrow. The poem as well as the charge end quietly in a plain stanza, the last stanza which different but still inspirational.
The literary elements in this poem add to the effect the poem has on the reader, which can be different for everyone, but it makes the reader reflect on their own life and how kindness has changed
