How Is Racing Safe

Is Racing Safe or not? Is racing safe to keep as a sport? This question is asked all the time. Racing is safe because all the safety gear you have to have, and the way it is saver then a street car. To start the argument, racing is safe because of the gear you have to wear in order to race. Without any gear you can take your car on the track an race. The “roll cage should be padded for the driver’s protection. The legal minimums in SCCA is to pad 6 inches around the driver’s head with 1" thick foam” ( Myers). The padding also has to cover and parts the driver can reach or touch when strapped in. The sea belts will also keep you safe because they have to be so tight that you cant move in them. So when you flip and land upside down, your head is still lined up with the head rest. The seat that you get will be made just for you, because it needs to fit you so your body won’t go from side to side.

One way it is safe then a street car is that it has a bunch of safety gear you have to wear. Just like Harlie White, if she she would have got in the same accident she got in on the street she would not be alive. Her car flipped three time in the air and landed upside down, it then from there blow up in flames (ESPN). She couldn’t get out by herself but with all the fire proof stuff she was wear saved her live. Sure she may have some scares and burns but she is living and still racing. Now if that were to happen on the street she would have died and would not be able to live her dreams. Plus racing is in a controlled equipment unlike the street
