Social media is used to carry out 90% of organized terrorism on the internet. The main aims of terrorists are in order to create terror to increase their popularity and recruiting followers from all over the globe.The question is “How is the internet used as a weapon for terrorism?” especially social media. The internet makes this easier to achieve and is also widely used by terrorist groups for internal communication, propagandizing, luring in recruits and creating awareness about themselves by delivering threats. A growth in terrorism results in more deaths of civilians and stunts economic and social development. Moreover, the use of the internet as a weapon has already affected its access to the general public, limiting it due to the concern of governments. Once again, significantly impacting global growth as technology has become an integral part of people’s lives today. This also raises security concerns of the general public as it now enables the terrorists to reach personal information and communicate to a larger audience. The terrorist communication on the internet may come out to be a national threat to places like the USA or Great Britain because it is believed that some terrorist groups are operating from there. The government is trying to prevent any sort of destruction from happening in these places because major incidents have taken place already, for example the 9/11 attacks. The internet has helped terrorist groups to communicate with subordinates in other countries and plan attacks accordingly. These communications heighten the challenge of dealing with subduing threats and attacks across the world from terrorist organizations.
