Walter Whitman was an American writer during the nineteenth century. Primarily, he was known for his practical poetry and down to earth style. In his work, he displayed both realistic and philosophical views. His works, are mainly drawn from both the love of his county and his theistic world view. Whitman was greatly influential to American literature and writings.
He was later well-known for The Great Gatsby and wrote about the roaring twenties. Langston Hughes (Feb 1st, 1902-1967) An African American poet and novelist famous for African American themes that made him an important contributor to the Harlem Renaissance. He wrote in a new form called jazz poetry. He was famous for saying “I am Negro and Beautiful”.
James Baldwin will be the first poet/author I want to focus on. James Baldwin is a very accomplished man. A social activist, who has fought alongside Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X , and other predominate figure during the Civil Rights Movement. A person whose experience can be shown through their literature. What I love about Baldwin is his use of allegory, motifs and figurative language to liven up the stories, and add another layer of depth to it.
As I said there were many poets but I will pick one in particular: Siegfried Sassoon. Sassoon was a soldier in the British army. He became one of the most famous poets in WW1. Sassoon was born in a wealthy Jewish family. He was sent to war in 1915 and gained a military cross for bringing back a wounded soldier during heavy fire.
In Louis Sachar’s book Holes, the protagonist Stanley Yelnats is sent to a correctional camp after being wrongly convicted for stealing donated sneakers. Stanley is born under a curse and is bullied because he is overweight and poor, giving the audience a misguided first impression of him as an unsuspecting hero. But throughout the course of the book, it shows that the protagonist unexpectedly develops into a hero who saves one of his best friends from turning into “buzzard food,” and unknowingly breaks the family curse. During Stanley’s ordeal stay at Camp Green Lake, he not only changes mentally to display heroic traits like altruism, perseverance and bravery he has also changed physically to be a stronger, healthier individual.

First of all, WB Yeats had an amazing style. He had a great style because, for example in some of his romance poems he wrote, he used alter egos of himself to describe things and how he felt. Also Influenced by Ezra Pound, his work had more concision while still having amazing topics like irish mythology.

He started the Irish dramatics society in 1902 and founded Abbey Theatre in 1904. On one hand he is political in nature and on other hand he was the lost Romantic.
