Music has been around for as long as humans have. Well, just because people make the music. What is music, and how did music begin anyways? Well, lets try and go back all the way to the beginning. There are many definitions of music that you can find, but one of the best definitions is explained by Yahoo.com stating “an aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or combination of sounds.” Though there is no official beginning to music, from what we know (according to Emily-Jane Hills Orford) the earliest form of music that we as humans know is when it started by churches and any religious groups. You have the ability to make people feel a certain way about your music. You can trigger a memory or even impact their life. Being the musician proves that you know how to work your way around the notes and with all of that information that you have in your brain, you must have a more developed brain right? “The auditory cortex, which is the part of the brain concerned with hearing, contains 130% more ‘grey matter’ in professional musicians than in non-musicians.” says Lorna Duckworth. Don’t take it from the words of Lorna, she along with some other unnamed scientist conducted tests which proved that musicians use more parts of their neurons which makes them take in more information thus making their brain larger that a human who doesn’t play any instruments, even the amateur players with some musical experiences. Though not mentioned in the article, one of the main reasons that the brain increases in size, besides handling all the information, is the transitions in the parts of the brain. As mentioned before, the parietal lobe and the medial temporal lobe is what professional musicians have to transition from. The parietal to listen to what they’re playing, and the medial temporal to remember the song that they are
