According to law, civil rights are something that everyone is born with and given. However, history has shown that this is not always the case. Everyday, people fight for their rights and civil rights makes it possible to live in a world that is equal. As a result of Ruby Bridges actions, all people are entitled to equal rights. Ruby Bridges changed the progress of civil rights, and it is because of her courage that schools are the way they are today. Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi. Her mother was very supportive of Bridges going to school. Bridges mother has always been very interested in civil rights. On the other hand, her father was worried about the troubles that could happen. However, Bridges “wasn’t fully aware of the radical racism that was surrounding these schools" (World Book). At one point Bridges was even threatened to be poisoned, and because of it, she could only eat food from home. Of course, knowing Ruby Bridges was a religious person, she would stop outside the school and pray for all the mean people. On Bridges first day of school she was escorted right the principal's office and spent the whole day there. Ruby Bridges was never able to attend a real class, there was only one teacher, from Boston, that would teach her. Parents of students in her class were pulling their children out. Bridges started getting nightmares, stop eating, and stressed. Not only Bridges, but was faced with challenges, but her whole family. Ruby Bridges’ dad lost his job and her grandparents got sent off their land that they lived on for 25 years. Bridges mother had difficulties buying groceries from the store. Nevertheless, her community started showing Bridges support, whether they were black or white. Some people supported her bravery for going to
