October 7, 2017 There are many people in history who have stood up to bullies throughout history, and one of the many people who stood up to bullies is, Ruby Bridges. Ruby Nell Bridges was born on the eighth of September of nineteen fifty-four in Tylertown, Mississippi, she lived on a farm with her parents and grandparents. When she was four years old, her family moved to New Orleans, so that Ruby and them could have a better life and while they were there the family gained three more members, Ruby’s parents had three more kids, two boys and one girl. When Ruby started Kindergarten she took a test and this test told her if she was or wasn’t going to an all-white school. She was one of the many African-American children to take this test in New Orleans, the reason for this test was so that if all African-American children failed everyone and everything would still stay segregated. Bridges was one of six children who passed the test, she was the first African-American child attend the William Frantz School, an all-white school. She graduated high school from Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans, and went to business to study travel and tourism. She then married Malcolm Hall and had four sons together. She started seeing a child psychologist, Dr. Robert Coles, he helped Ruby by letting her talk about what she was feeling. Ruby started to feel more relaxed as the situation with her going to school calmed down, more white children started returning back to class and she got to see them sometimes.
