To Build a Model Airplane is Something, But to Fly it is Everything While driving through the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas, I looked up and noticed something peculiar. It looked like a bird, but bigger and it looked like a plane but smaller. I decided to venture closer to this creature in the sky. It just kept traveling in a circle and doing figure eights above the city as if it was doing a pattern of some sort. As I approached a grass field, the area where the flying objects seemed to congregate, I figured out what I was looking at. All the objects in the sky were model airplanes. Airplanes that were built and constructed by the people flying them. I thought this was an interesting concept, people flying mini airplanes in the air with their own remote controllers. The rules included safety precautions to take while not only flying airplanes, but while watching them too. I had no idea that flying model airplanes could be so dangerous. At this moment I was instantly intrigued. The rules noted that while observing the model airplanes one must stay under the shaded area and outside the fenced area. This then made me more curious. How dangerous is this hobby exactly? Has anyone ever gotten severely hurt by a model airplane? I decided to approach someone and ask them. His name was Joe and was an older man about 55 years old. I asked him in his time flying planes has he or anyone he has known gotten injured? According to Joe “injuries are very popular especially for the unexperienced flyers.” He said that “the most popular injury are planes that get out of control and hit the prospectors watching and they end up getting a nose bleed.” This statement made me realize and conclude that model airplanes are dangerous and it’s a good idea for them to park
