Unique humans are like oceans, endless, deep, mystifying. When one begins to describe a unique human, they start with something like their personal preferences or things that have occurred in their life that has changed them into the wonderful, unique person that they are. One such unique human such as Hannah “Go-deen-ez” may be an applicable example. On the surface, As far as personal preferences, she has an abundance. Her favorite book is King Lear because of the overall powerful message that makes her happy when she reads it.
In addition, the negative connotation of “nothing” repeated several times and the breakdown of the language foreshadows a breakdown of the family. As she reasons about her answer, Cordelia also expresses her compassion towards her father through a hyperbole by stating, “Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave my heart into my mouth” (Lear 1.1.93-94). Justifying her response, Cordelia expresses that her love towards him cannot be properly expressed as she contrasts how he has “begot [her], fed [her], loved [her]” and in return she “obeyed [him], loved [him], and most honored [him]” to show that she loves her fathers as much as their relationship requires (Lear 1.1.99-101). Though she speaks from her heart, Lear ultimately rejects her argument, recognizing that she is not worthy of his wealth as expressed through his belittling tone. As a result, Lear blesses his kingdom upon his ungrateful, lying daughters who he believes to have loved him the most when in fact, he exiled the only daughter to have truly loved him.
None of the four lovers know who they truly love and they are always fighting over each other when they don’t even know who they love. Marriages in society are the same way, young teens tend to like one person for a little while and then move on to another person just as the four lovers did. All couples argue and fight over each other until they are content with who they are in love with. Lysander quotes his view on love like "You’ve pretended to be in love with her, singing fake love songs softly at her window by moonlight"( l. i. 30.) to show how they realize that he really doesn't show true love towards anyone. That is a message from Shakespeare suggesting that society should at least realize that they aren't giving real love towards anyone.
Kent's spiritual/mental concern is free thought. As Kent was the only one that openly disagreed with Lear's decision to disown Cordelia, Lear banished him from the kingdom and gave him six days to leave. "Upon our kingdom: if on the tenth day following. Thy banish'd trunk be found in our dominions, the moment is thy death. Away!
The last crucial element that was huge in the making of Shakespeare is rightful order in England. For centuries there was always some sort of hierarchy in England and neighboring countries. Rightful order includes: King, nobility, and a lot more. Rightful order was a system to organize people, and it still exists to a degree today. King were usually looked up to the most.
Edmund/Edgar In King Lear by William Shakespeare, an arrogant king divides his kingdom between his two wicked daughters, ignoring his good child and thus destroying the natural order, having his kingdom suffer the consequences. Shakespeare through the use of metaphors and tone as well as language contrasts Edmund’s belief of nature as fair and just, and Edgar’s belief of nature as cruel and incompatible with man. Shakespeare uses the contrast between Edgar and Edmund’s views on nature, and his portrayal of Edmund as cruel and inhuman, and Edgar as kind and compassionate, to show that it is man who should serve society, and those who attempt to make society serve themselves are the cruelest of alll. Edmund sees the social order of man as cruel
A father is the first hero in everyone’s life. Being Dad is not as easy as spreading butter on bread. Fathers are always gentle, hard worker and adorable. Happy Father’s day to everyone over there.
In the first scene of King Lear, the term ‘nothing’ is what ultimately causes the advancement in the plot. Cordelia responds to Lear when asked what she can say to express her love for her father, with ‘nothing’, meaning that she cannot express in words how she loves Lear. Lear takes this answer to mean that she feels no love for him, when in actual fact it was the most honest and loyal answer of the three sisters. Nothingness is also referred to when the Fool describes Lear as ‘Lear’s shadow’, saying he is nothing without his kingdom and his crown.
At this point in the play, King Lear has lost everything. Lear no longer has property, title, or respect. Despite not having these things, Lear still manages to keep his pride. This is evident when he refuses to use “women’s weapons, water drops” (2.4. 276). This shows that Lear is desperate to maintain an image of superiority.
King Lear was a man who loved his daughters very much, he had three daughters. He believed he was ready to give over the land and kingdom power to his daughters, so he went and sat all three of his daughters down. He then begin to ask them each how much they loved them. One of his daughters said that she loved him with all her heart and every ounce of her self being, of course this joke of a king, believed his daughter and gave her the biggest chunk of land, and then the second gets asked how much does she love her father and she says the nearly the exact same phrase as her sibling. Then her came the last daughter and the king asked her "how much do you love me?"and she said that she loved him no more or mo less than she already does, and
First she accepts losing everything just to be honest then even after her bad treatment, she comes back to save her father. She was a loyal, honest person who loved her father deeply even though she could not express it in words. In the end the truth came out and Cordelia was King Lear’s only actual daughter willing to sacrifice everything and anything for
King Lear is an arrogant and powerful individual who is very much aware of his authority. Lear’s most obvious flaw at the start of the play is that he values appearances over reality. He wants to be treated as a king and to also enjoy the title, but he doesn’t want to take the king’s responsibilities of ruling for the good of his kingdom. Likewise, his test for his daughters establishes the fact that he would much rather prefer a complimentary public display of
Entry #1 – King Lear: From the start of this book, Cordelia’s refusal to flatter her father and her sisters’ willingness to flatter him shows her sincerity towards her father and foreshadows the fact that her sisters Goneril and Regan will end up throwing away their father after they have gotten what they wanted from him. It also foreshadows that Cordelia will probably be the only one to come to her father’s aid in his time of need. After receiving the land from King Lear, both Goneril and Regan begin to change by taking away his soldiers and severely undermining his authority. Lear’s first knight brings offers his opinion that his Lear’s daughters have intentionally been treating Lear with little respect. This does not deter Lear as he says, “I have perceived a most faint neglect of late, which I have rather blamed as mine own jealous curiosity than as a very pretense and purpose of unkindness”; demonstrating how Lear is willing to take the blame for his daughter’s treatment towards him, and will not take his first knight’s advice. Orsino gives his advice on love to Cesario, and tells him that “if ever thou shalt love, in the sweet pangs of it remember me”, showing how Orsino is also being self absorbed as he wants Cesario to think of him in times of trouble. Orsino is only able to think of his own problems: that Lady Olivia will not marry
It is a striking event how he treats his alleged favourite daughter and how easily he believes the lies he is being fed. Despite this, his quote holds a certain truth to it. As Lear has sinned against Cordelia, his other two daughters have sinned against him. He is right in his words for the reason that, although he was unjust and treated Cordelia disrespectfully, he did it because he felt betrayed.
