Everyone sees parents in the crowd steaming because they see their child is sitting on the bench ready to play, but never gets the chance to. For this reason, high school coaches should be required to give equal playing time to all players who make the team because it will keep students engaged, improve both practice and performance, and reward student athletes for their effort in participation.
Playing each student will keep them engaged in the sport. “Kids who sit on the bench benefit less from sports than kids who play, and lack of playing time is a big reason why kids drop out of sports” (Thompson). The players should have equal playing time because they need to be more involved with the team. The players will be more occupied in the game rather than dropping out of the sport they love to play. …show more content…

“After a productive summer of working on this aggressive style of attacking the basket, I found myself whipping my opponents with regularity and getting to the rim with relative ease” (Gels). The students worked hard for being on the team so that they are actually able to play during the game. The parents won’t be getting mad at the coaches for not playing the students when they have been working hard during summer workouts.
Every kid works hard enough to play on a team. Don’t let the coach ruin your child’s favorite sport. “All kids should have equal playing time it’s not fair for one kid to be put on the bench because he’s not good enough” (“Should Coaches Give Equal Playing Time?”). Only some students will get rewarded for playing. Some students will not get the chance to play even though they will be the only ones working hard. The students will enjoy playing and being rewarded for their hard work and participating in the sports they are participating
