Here I am driving myself crazy over this essay I have to write for my English class. Yes! I have to do a personal narrative essay for an English class! And, yes, that means the essay must be written in English! Well, it may be an easy task for a native English speaker student, “a piece of cake” like they say but for me, a Puerto Rican, born and raised in Puerto Rico, whose native language is not English but Spanish this a rather challenging task or so I thought. It was amazing to listen to her words flowing so easily, so magically it mesmerized me; they reminded me of the bubbles my kids blow out of the bubble wand, floating in the air so smoothly.
Then it hit me and it all clicked, I felt an awakening I can even say it was almost surreal. I got pen and paper, sat down and started writing and I just could not stop. My ideas kept flowing like an overflowing river, like a fresh water spring. Suddenly I was no longer afraid of writing in English and as I lost my fears, I stopped being so self-conscious and my self-confidence kept growing and growing setting me free. Free as a bird. And boy, what a great feeling that was!
During the process of doing this assignment I learned that writing a personal narrative essay should not be a stressful nor a difficult task because after all you are writing about your own personal experience, your thoughts and feelings during that event and believe me, nobody would make a better narrator of your personal experience than yourself. You just have to cast your fears aside and let the words flow just like Ms. Day does in
