Chapter 8 Coffeehouses Joseph Stanley Christensen February 11, 2015 Robert Hooke is famous for his knowledge and discoveries using a microscope. He was the very first individual to explain to the world how everything consists of cells and with these cells everything in the world is created. He was one of the most brilliant scientists of this time. He helped pave the way so we could understand how organisms grow and survive. Robert Hooke was also an architect. I believe at this time it was a time of a knowledgeable awakening. In coffee houses many famous scientists and influential people discussed ideas and began to learn from one another. Famous people such as Robert Hooke, Isaac Newton, and Benjamin Franklin all spent many long hours at coffeehouses bouncing ideas off one another. This time of knowledge was new to the world, because news could travel faster and ideas took off faster than ever before. The news could be heard at coffeehouses by the many publications provided there. Coffeehouses were also like the first unofficial P.O. Boxes used by the post office. She was the very first woman that was published in the Americas. She was best known for her writings of poetry. I learned that Anne Bradstreet was not a school educated woman. She attained most of her knowledge from her father and from an extensive library of the Earl of Lincoln where she lived while her father was steward from 1619-1630.
