How well do standardized tests actually measure your abilities? Some people support standardized tests, but others are against them. I believe standardized tests are irrelevant because students start to believe they’re stupid, the tests don't improve education overall, and they are used too much to judge how well the students are being taught and learning. The first reason for my belief is that some people start to believe that they are stupid or dumb due to standardized test scores. For example, if they get one bad test score on a standardized test, it could cause them to believe that they are stupid. The student will then stop trying as hard, or slack off, since they think that they aren’t smart enough to get a good score. Their education doesn’t improve, they only get stressed out by the standardized test scores rather than trying to focus on what they’re learning. When students get stressed, some shut down and just give up on the test, saying that they don’t care about the score they get anymore due to lots of stress put on them. This causes me to believe that standardized tests do not improve education. My last reason is that standardized tests are used too much to judge a student’s education or how well a teacher is teaching their students. Standardized tests do not accurately measure someone’s knowledge. A student will get to the point where they won’t care on what score they get, so they rush through it and get a questionable score, even if they are intelligent. The teachers will then get the blame for not teaching their student well, even though they might have.
