1. Twain, Mark. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. United Kingdom, England: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1884. Print.
These are series of stories about a young boy, age around 13 years old. He lives in a town in Missouri along the banks of the Mississippi river. He is a poor boy and he finds whatever means to survive including finding a friend Tom Sawyer who found a stash of gold which is held in a bank for both boys. He is adopted by a widow and his new life of manners, church and school is part of the plan ordered by Tom Sawyer. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charlotte write messages about Wilbur in order to persuade the farmer to let him live. This heartwarming story is for ages 5-8 and is wonderful to teach how to give to others with empathy at any cost.
5. Freeman, Don. Corduroy. New York City, New York: Viking Press, 1968. Print.
It tells the story of a bear name Corduroy displayed in a department store. A girl name Lisa spots the bear and is willing to buy him but her mom says no because a button is missing on his overalls. But the next day, Lisa comes back with the money and buys Corduroy. She finds and sews a button on his overalls and it ends with both of them hugging each other. This book is for ages 3-6 and can be used for seeing how something can be fixed if wanted bad enough.
6. Dickens, Charles. Oliver Twist. London, England: Bentley’s Miscellany, 1838. Print.
Oliver Twist was born into a life of poverty in a workhouse. He escapes and travels to London where he joins a group of pickpockets breaking the law. He is led to an elderly man who he steals for until a man he steals from takes him in and adopts him for a wonderful experience in the country. This book is for ages 9-12 with some great ways to see how to help others make better
