Examinations and Explorations upon Humanity’s Stereotypical Identities Society should begin to look at people beyond their identity as a race or culture; thus resisting stereotypes and resisting demands and expectations of a person based on their race, culture, or ethnic background. According to the essay by Appiah, notions provide normality and models unto how certain ethnic groups should act according to society (57). Appiah states that collective identities are what one would call ‘scripts’ or narratives that people can use in the creation of their life plans (57-58). We as a civilization need to learn the correctness of not using identities and expectations as naïve assumptions of a person or a group of individual’s personalities and qualities.
