Some commercials use a dark, ominous tone to deliver a message, while others use humor. But the Avocados from Mexico commercial used during 2017 Super Bowl uses both, one more than the other. The commercial starts off with a dark and mysterious tone, then shifts to a humorous one, that isn’t openly trying to be funny, but does so with the use of innuendos and clumsy characters. The Avocados from Mexico commercial effectively persuades the audience to buy avocados. The commercial takes place in a secret chamber hidden somewhere. The setting is a secret society meeting for an unknown purpose. The members, wearing masks and long robes, enter in in a straight line and form a circle in the middle while ominous music plays in the background. At this moment the tone is a dark and mysterious, one filled with uncertainty.
The cult members are talking but cannot understand each other, so they take off their masks. The dark music playing in the background grows louder. It makes fun of some mainstream conspiracy theories, and other theories that make fun of trends. The advertisement’s use of logos is very simple. Avocados have a great taste that one can use on a variety of dishes and are healthy to eat. The advertisement uses a decent amount on ethos. The company offers information on the avocados such as nutrition facts, recipes, and ideas. (Avocado) The characters are middle aged people who don’t seem sinister once they take off their masks.
