I Pride Myself Research

When someone meets me, it does not take very long to find out that I pride myself as a curious life-long learner who prides herself on celebrating her Scandinavian heritage and cultural history. Being a Viking Age reenactor who regularly volunteers at cultural events by teaching about the daily life of the Norse peoples of the Viking Age through living history displays and lectures, I have found that I naturally gravitated towards Pacific Lutheran University where I will be able to double-major in both Scandinavian Studies and Anthropology. Having participated in numerous cultural events at the Scandinavian Cultural Center on campus with my Viking Age re-enactment organization (The Glamfolk), I have enjoyed participating in the PLU community over the years as a visiting outsider and look forward to becoming more involved and serving the PLU community better as a student. Aside from studying for my classes, I can frequently be found researching a particular topic, craft, or art form in significant detail of my own volition. I love finding and making connections between my current research projects and any of my prior research that I have done over the years. In particular, I like to learn about how things were made in the past and then jump in and try making it in as close to the same way for myself as possible. My curiosity brings a particular enjoyment to being in school and learning in a higher-education environment. Being surrounded by other people who celebrate and make a point of satisfying their academic curiosities such as one can find on campus gives me a sense of belonging that is hard to find elsewhere, and had led me to an eventual goal of teaching within a higher education
