I achieved ISO #1 by attending a Catholic school with teachers that guide me in my faith and being completely present at mass. ISO #1 is important because I have developed a closer relationship with God. I have also learned to read and interpret the Sacred Scriptures. After interpreting the Scripture, I apply it to my own life to live as a better Catholic. Attending a Catholic school has really helped me to grow a lot in my faith. I am constantly surrounded by a supportive community of people of the same beliefs. My teachers have helped me every step of the way. We pray before class starts, and they answer all my questions so I can understand my faith. In my Theology of the Body class we have learned much about the Bible and how the Church interprets it. These people help me know I’m not alone and that it’s okay to ask people questions to have a better understanding of Catholicism. However, not everyone is Catholic. Being able to talk to these people has also helped me on my journey. I learn why other people don’t follow Catholicism and what questions they have about it. Answering their questions makes me think more deeply about my own faith, and anything I can’t answer I can find out to learn something new. On the other hand, I don’t read the Bible very much at home. So, this year I decided to not just go to mass, but to be present in mass. I pay attention to the readings and reflect on them. Then, as the priest gives the homily, I listen to their interpretation and figure out how to apply this to my own life. Just listening at mass doesn’t mean you are entirely present.
