The character of Ichabod Crane is very different in the movie as compared to the story. In the story, he was a schoolmaster in Tarry Town and singing master, so he comes to Sleepy Hollow to work. He was a superstitious man whose indulging in tales of the supernatural, so leads to him being scared at night often. In the end of the story, he was attacked by the Horseman, then going missing. He is inspired to Katrina by her beauty as her family’s wealth. In the movie, he was constable from New York who goes to the Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of murders. He was skeptic who relies on scientific methods to solve the murders. He was chased by a fake Horseman revealed to be Brom, but he was surprised and goes on to continue his work. He does not pursue Katrina’s affections and not show to be material interested when he does.
Even though Katrina is the source of Ichabod’s affections in the story and film, she is a very different character in both. In the story, she is one of Ichabod’s singing students and she is the object of his desires. Ichabod thinks that he has won her over, but the attempt was not successful that he must leave her house dejected and susceptible to his worst fears. In the story, he is Ichabod’s greatest rival in the fight for Katrina’s hand. Brom teased Ichabod the stories about ghost and goblins to makes him scares and had compete against with him to win the fruit punch. Ichabod Crane disappears, then Brom Bones marries Katrina. In the movie, he is who scares Ichabod in a prank by posing as the Headless Horseman. He arrived and shoots at the Headless Horseman, but the Headless Horseman doesn’t try to kill Ichabod or Brom. He finally pulled out the sword and duels with him, but the horseman killed Brom. He is killed by the Horseman, but Katrina moves to New York with Ichabod in the end of the
