Words and ideas can change a person for better or for worse. In history, just an idea has ability to spark a revolution in a person. So, since words and ideas can do so many different things, some would argue that they can be more powerful than any physical weapon produced in the world because they are the beginnings that can make a person kill each other. Words can psychologically change how people act and see the world they live in. So how does a terrorist leader accomplish getting their words and ideas into messages that change the psychological make up of their followers and turn them into fighters? The finding of this tool can be a double edge sword because it makes easier to isolate the leader, but then the group becomes decentralized and just self-motivates each other since the leader has gotten to them psychologically. Words and ideas are the weapons, while the techniques used to portray these messages are the tools used to get the weapon to change society. It is important to identify the thoughts, feelings, and actions what will help the leader to accomplish the goal of changing a person psychologically or behaviorally before alterations can be made in the follower’s mind. The other two things that the leader does that helps lead to these but does not change person like religion does. Having control over how someone see their religion can give control over them. Some leaders will show how religion really allows horrible things to be considered like saying, “self-destruction becomes permissible because it is a form of self-sacrifice” (Kershaw, 2010). The follower hearing how thing are allowed by the religious books over the years can get a person to change into becoming a person that commits things that society sees as wrong, but in their world, all of them see it as a being allowed. The leaders can twist the words of the religious text into beneficial gain for their political movement. They are doing it to save the religion from being wiped out by the enemies of the group.
